Campaign Story

Michalis-Sokratis is an adorable little boy, who is daily struggling, since he has spent his entire life confined to a bed. When the little guy was born, he wasn’t experiencing any health problems, while his parents were excited to bring their first child into this world. After three months however, Michalis-Sokratis suddenly presented with respiratory distress, and was rushed to the hospital. He soon started to manifest spasms, while his organ began to shut down. As a result, he had to be air-lifted to a hospital in Athens. There, he was subjected to a series of tests, which revealed an edema to the brain, which was attributed to a septic episode. Little Michalis-Sokratis had to remain hospitalized for a long period of time, and even though the function of his organ was eventually restored, his nervous system sustained irreversible damage.

Today Michalis-Sokratis is 5 years old. The little fighter is unable to move his extremities and fend for himself, while he is regularly subjected to physiotherapy, so that he doesn’t develop muscular atrophy and joint stiffness. According to the pediatric neurologist and the developmental pediatrician who monitor his condition, the family needs to procure a wheelchair, which will allow his safe transfer, as well as an active passive trainer, and which will strengthen his muscular system and improve his blood circulation.

Little Michalis-Sokratis’ parents have found themselves in a dead end, since they don’t have the means to cope with the purchase of the equipment mentioned above. Not knowing where to turn, they reached out to ACT OF KINDNESS, and after a thorough inquiry of our interdisciplinary staff, we organized this aid campaign in order to support this family from the island of Samos, who has been facing an uphill struggle.

Michalis-Sokratis’ life turned upside down due to an infection which led to sepsis. A perfectly healthy child found himself confined to a bed, unable to fend for himself. We will stand by his side. Together, we can procure the equipment he requires and offer him a better quality of life!
